Distributed Ledgers e Blockchain

Distributed Ledgers and Blockchain technologies are gaining an ever growing popularity in the last years, attracting the interest of both academia and industry. This success is due to the unique and disruptive features of these technologies, one among all the capability of providing immutable and always available registrations without the need of trusted parties. Moreover, the capability of executing code (smart contracts) of blockchains is a further feature that makes the blockchain an interesting trusted decentralized execution environment for real applications

The research we conduct in the Blockchain field concerns both the definition of security solutions leveraging such technology as well as security solutions aimed at enhancing blockchain technology and environment security. For instance, we investigate the design and implementation of access control systems for regulating the rights to execute smart contracts. As a matter of fact, smart contract security is a crucial problem in blockchain, since unauthorized or malicious executions could even lead to financial loss in the form of cryptocurrency or cryptocurrency tokens. Another aspect of blockchain technology covered by our research activity concerns data privacy, which is a well known blockchain issue. In this respect, we investigate, for instance, the applicability of zero-knowledge protocols and of Layer-2 solutions to preserve data privacy.
